This is a great little parchment craft topper if you need something simple and as there is no set theme it can be adapted to almost any situation, from ‘get well’ to ‘happy birthday’.

To make this topper you will need:

  • Small ball tool (1.5mm)
  • Extra small ball tool (1.0mm)
  • Large Ball tool (3.0mm)
  • Parchment craft embossing mat
  • White wax to make the embossing smoother, such as a tea light.
  • White pencil
  • Black fine liner

Tracing: Trace the flower into the centre of the parchment vellum using the white pencil, DO NOT trace the writing yet.

Embossing: ALL EMBOSSING IS DONE ON THE REVERSE OF THE PARCHMENT

In order to help the embossing be as smooth as possible it is advised that you very gently rub the back of the vellum with white wax before you begin. Don’t do this on the embossing mat other wise you will accidentally emboss the vellum and ruin it!

Each petal on the flower is completed in the same way. It’s up to you whether you prefer to totally complete one petal at a time or do all the work with one tool before you move on to the next.

Use the extra small ball tool to go around the outside edge of the petal; folowing the lines you traced earlier. Allow the embossing to fade roughly 3mm before you get to the centre.

This fading will help the petals to look as if they are coming out from the centre of the flower. Use the large parchment craft ball tool to emboss the body of the petal so that the tip is strongly white and fades towards the centre of the flower; the same as the outer line did.

Use the small ball tool to blend the line and the shading together around the tip of the petal so that there is no distinction between the two.

Be careful to leave a slight gap between each of the petals so that they stand prominent from each other.

Centre of the flower: Use the small ball tool to make lots of little dots in the centre of the flower, try to keep all of them evenly spaced apart.

Stem and Leaf: Use the small ball tool to emboss the entire stem, keeping the lines as straight and sharp as possible.

Use the extra small ball tool to go around the edge of the leaf. Then use the small parchment craft ball tool to emboss the tips of all the little serrations along the leaf edge. Fade these slightly into the body of the leaf.

Use the large tool to very carefully shade the leaf. Keep the shading within the leaf and leave a slight gap between the lines. Use the small tool to shade the tip of the leaf.

Writing: Once you have shaded the entire design you are ready to do the writing.

Turn the parchment craft over so that the flower is facing you and trace which ever sentiment you like using the black fine liner. Once this is done turn the parchment back onto its back and emboss the letters.
